University of Utah Pride Week comes in October
The University of Utah once again will host its Pride Week, this year with the theme “Imagine U: Beyond Marriage, Moving Forward.” The event runs at various locations on campus from October 2 through 11.
Orange Is the New Black‘s Laverne Cox will be this year’s keynote speaker at the Union Building Ballroom on Friday, October 10th at 6 p.m. Tickets are $10, with two offered free to University of Utah students, They are available at the Union Front Desk.
The week kicks of with a “Gay-la” and silent auction on October 2 at the IJ & Jeanné Wagner Jewish Community Center beginning at 6 p.m.
Tuesday, October 7, a film festival will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Marriott Library Gould Auditorium.
A square dance takes place that night at the Union Ballroom from 6 to 8:30 p.m.
Free HIV/STD testing and flu shots will be available on Wednesday, Oct. 8 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Union Ballroom, hosted by the Center for Student Wellness.
Thursday morning, Oct. 9, the Hinckley Institute Forum will have a discussion titled, “Undocuqueer Experiences” beginning at 10:45 a.m.
That night, Indian queer artist activists Alok Vaid-Menon and Janani Balasubramanian, who call themselves DarkMatterRage, will bring their “Rainbows are just Refracted White Light” to the Social Work Auditorium at 6 p.m.
