Wedding Winner Letter: Segna Batty

My partner, Elecia, and I are celebrating our third anniversary on Jan. 31. I would love to be able to surprise her with a wonderful wedding because she has been such an amazing support and partner to me.

We went to high school together, just one year apart, but we never really knew each other. After high school, we met at a local club and started talking because we remembered each other. Our best friends started dating which gave me an excuse to see more of her. We hit it off immediately and had (and still have) amazing chemistry.

She is such a beautiful person but I was so attracted to her positive outlook on life and to the sweet, accepting way she treats everyone she meets. She has this strong magnetism toward people that makes you want to immediately get to know her. Since we started dating, we have been inseparable, spending every day with each other and soon moved in together. I believe she is the perfect woman for me and try to make sure she knows how much I love her every day. We get a lot of grief from our friends because we can’t help but make it so obvious that we were just meant to be. I knew I wanted to spend the rest of my life with her after only a few months together and was made the happiest woman in the world when she soon expressed those same feelings for me.

We have been talking about our wedding for more than two years now but can never seem to make it happen financially. I lost my great job of almost 10 years when the company I worked for was sold to another company. Elecia has stuck by me and been more than supportive of me through all kinds of ups and downs; unemployment, the loss of my grandmother who I was very close to and through our move to Salt Lake City, trying to get me back on my feet.

We decided that we wanted to be parents and have a baby last year. We did tons of research, bought all the ‘expecting’ books and found ourselves a sperm donor. Elecia had always wanted to have a baby but was afraid that she would not be able to get pregnant due to health issues that she had when she was much younger.

She started seeing a doctor who cleared us to start trying and assured us that everything would be fine. We were thrilled when we found out that she was pregnant soon after we started trying!  When we made the appointment with her doctor to start having prenatal checkups we were crushed when we found out that she had miscarried.

Of course we were completely devastated and she tried to be positive about the issue, but I know it was much harder on her then she would ever show so she wouldn’t worry me anymore. She bravely went on and we kept trying but with no success. She is the most amazing, sweet, loving person I have ever met and I know how lucky I am to have her in my life. She inspires me everyday to be a better person. I would love nothing more than to share an amazing wedding with her and to have her as my wife.

Thank you for your consideration,

Segna Batty
