GOP lawmaker resigns after nude photos surface
Republican Puerto Rican territorial Sen. Roberto Arango has resigned after photos of him bare-chested and bending over on a bed naked were found on the gay hookup mobile app, Grindr. Arango voted for a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage and he has even voiced his opposition to civil unions and has maintained that marriage should be between one man and one woman.
After the photos surfaced, he told a local TV news station that he could not confirm or deny that he took them and said he has been taking photos recently because he has lost a significant amount of weight.
“You know I’ve been losing weight. As I shed that weight, I’ve been taking pictures. I don’t remember taking this particular picture but I’m not going to say I didn’t take it. I’d tell you if I remembered taking the picture but I don’t,” Arango said after the photos were made public.
Arango was the vice-chair for the re-election of George W. Bush in Puerto Rico in 2004.
The resignation comes just weeks after GOP Rep. Phil Hinkle was caught answering ads on Craigslist offering to pay an 18-year-old man $80 to have sex with him in a nearby hotel. Hinkle is also opposed to marriage equality and claims that he too is straight.
