Gay Mormon lands spot on NBC’s ‘The Voice’

After hearing the 20-year-old Utahn sing a solid rendition of Train’s “Soul Sister,” judge and coach Blake Shelton chose him to perform on the show. Tyler Robinson, who described himself as a gay Mormon, said he hadn’t told his father until that moment that he is gay.

“My dad and I don’t have the best relationship. He hasn’t been supportive of my music,” Robinson said. “Also, my father does not know that I’m gay. I haven’t actually told him yet. I guess he knows now.”

Robinson is just one of four openly gay contestants, and the blind audition rounds are finished. On Thursday the competition rounds will begin.
